Notes

How To Make A Pom Pom 2 Ways! Video Tutorial

The horn is worked in a spiral. Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.

The Pattern

Unicorn Head

The head is made from 2 pom poms.

First make a pom pom with white yarn. I used a 2.5 inch clover pom pom maker and I wrapped each side about 130 times.

Tie with white yarn and leave these strands long.

Trim the pom pom until it is approximately 2 inches tall and wide (but leave the 2 ties long) This is the nose.

Now make a pom pom with white and purple yarn. I used a 3 and 3/8 inch clover pom pom maker and I wrapped each side about 230 times. Wrap one side with white yarn and wrap the other side with purple yarn.

Tie the pom pom with white yarn and make sure to tie and knot it on the white side.

Trim the white yarn but leave the purple yarn long. The pom pom should be about 3 inches tall and wide. This is the hair and the face.

Trim the purple yarn a tiny bit, if needed.

The Unicorn Body

Make a pom pom with white yarn. I used a 3 and 3/8 inch clover pom pom maker and wrapped each side about 230 times.

Tie with white yarn.

Trim the pom pom until it is about 3.5 inches tall and wide.

Ears (Make 2)

with white yarn:

R1: ch 6, put a sc into the 2nd ch from the hook, 2dc into the next ch, ch 1, tc into the next ch, ch 1, 2dc into the next ch, sc into the last ch. = 9

Cut the yarn, leaving the tail long enough to sew to the head and pull it through the last stitch.

Horn
(worked in a spiral using a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.)

with gray yarn:

R1: Make a loose slip knot or a magic ring and ch 1, put 6 sc into the loose slip knot. =6
R2: sc into each stitch around. =6
R3: *2sc into the next stitch, sc into the next stitch. Repeat from the star around. =9
R4-R8: sc into each stitch around. sl st to the 1st stitch of the round. = 9

Cut the yarn, leaving the tail long enough to sew to the head.

Assembly

Sew the nose to the head with a darning needle.

Sew the ears to the head with a darning needle.

Use hot glue to attach the safety eyes.

Stuff the horn with a small amount of fiberfill or yarn scraps and sew the horn on with a darning needle. You may use some hot glue to make more secure, if you would like.

Sew the body of the unicorn to the head.

Shape the hair with your hands, if needed.

The End!
